Trusting in Your Journey by Julia

Trusting in your Journey

How do we work towards being an empowered and poised female?

I am going to share with you a brief snippet of my journey of self-acceptance and self-confidence in hopes that it too will empower you.

My passion was right in front of me at an early age, and I did not realize it until my sophomore year of college. When I was younger, I would sit up for hours making pretend websites on pieces of paper, magazine covers on Microsoft Word, and collecting notebooks to write short stories and song lyrics. I would make YouTube videos, reviewing all of my favorite products. In high school, I started to take an interest in product photography.

Years later, I finally put the pieces together. I loved marketing products and services that held a special place in my heart. From my favorite clothing brands to meals from restaurants, I wanted to share what I enjoyed with the world so they too could experience all of the options and possibilities brands had to offer.

Senior year of high school rolled around, and my health was not at its peak. Anxiety was clouding my mind, and I felt stuck. While I was in and out of the hospital, I searched for coping mechanisms to help me overcome my anxiety. When I was introduced to essential oils during this hard time in my life, I knew I wanted to learn more. I instantly was hooked on attending events to learn about the science behind the oils, as well as hearing other’s experiences with the natural products. Less than one year later, I started a business sharing essential oils with others. My passion for the products shined bright, but the first year following my dreams was tough.

When I was beginning to succeed and find happiness, the pessimism progressed. We live in a society where spreading negativity is as quick as the click of a button. I would constantly feel saddened about the criticism myself and others would receive about essential oils. Not only strangers, but also friends would comment on everything they could to bring me down. People would try and tell me that essential oils are fake, and that they do not work. They would make assumptions, even after knowing how much these oils have impacted my family’s lives and mine. I started to doubt my own experiences. I believed the critics. I was against myself.

One of the biggest blessings was one sentence that my mom said to me when I was feeling insecure: “You can say just as many good things about yourself as you can bad.” In addition, we are constantly told in all of our college marketing classes,  “It’s whom you surround yourself with.”  And if I kept surrounding myself with the criticism, I would focus on the negativity, when there is so much more to life.

We cannot keep holding ourselves back from doing what we love. Because, you see, it’s a cycle. Once we follow through with working towards what we love, we start to recognize what we love in ourselves. We recognize our talents and see opportunity for others who may be reaching out.

Woman and men all around the world are following their dreams, whether it is through entrepreneurship, engineering, biology, communications, psychology, physical therapy, or architecture. The list goes on of the amazing careers that surround us daily. Follow your dreams whether you want to take up dance classes, an instrument, public speaking, or wherever your heart leads you.  Though there are critics everywhere, there will always be a team out there in the world who appreciates what you do and will be there to support you. If you work hard towards something without giving up, you will learn so much about yourself in the process.

My passion is empowering others all around the globe to feel confident in achieving their dreams. In my life, sharing essential oils goes far beyond the product. I want to welcome the world to join me on my journey, while providing them an outlet to create their very own.

I hope to be remembered as accepting towards others. Advocating for wellness and confidence has brought me so much joy and a plethora of opportunities. I have been able to speak at events, travel, and talk with others on a daily basis whose lives have been transformed by implementing natural products into their lives. If I gave up on my journey in the beginning, I would have missed all of the incredible blessings that have entered into my life.

I am an empowered and poised female because I recognize that you are an empowered and poised female. I am an empowered and poised female because I take time to care for others, as well as myself. Your creativity and passions are ready to shine. Trust your journey and take the leap, because your time is now.  We all have talents that will help everyone rise to their feet and be their best selves. Let’s join together and continue the empowered and poised movement.

6 Small Ways You Can Improve Your Mood and Confidence

Ever have those days where every little thing brings you down? Imagine you wake up, make your bed and are excited and ready to go to school. You're supposed to get a test back in your first period class, but you did not do as well as you thought you did. Later in the day, your friends are not being as friendly as they usually are, which sets your mood down. You try not to think too much about these things, but you cannot help it. You also feel behind in some of the classes you are enrolled in, which stresses you out. Before you’re about to go home from school, the strap on your favorite sandals broke. You go home and everyone is minding their own business and not noticing how you are upset. These days can bring most people down, but here are 6 small ways you can boost your confidence when you are having one of those days:

1. Have positive self talk

If you constantly tell yourself you're no good or not worth it, then you will eventually start believing it, even though it isn't true. Start filling your thoughts with positive thoughts and you will see a better attitude about things

2. Don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake

5 Brands that empower females through femvertising

What is “Femvertising”? SheKnows Media defines “femvertising” as “advertising that employs pro-female talent, messages, and imagery to empower women and girls.” This is not a new term; however, social media has made it easier than ever to spread the love for brands who support and empower women and girls.

Now that you are familiar with the term “femvertising” let’s dive into some of the brands worthy of recognizing in this “fem” category.

1. Covergirl- #Girlscan

Covergirl is femvertising to help break barriers by teaching girls that they CAN. So often we hear all of the things girls “can’t” do: girls can’t “rock, be strong. . .be funny.” The truth is that we must stop believing society telling us what we can’t be. Girls are just as capable as anyone. We can be leaders, CEO’s, athletes, comedians, and so much more!. We can be whatever and whoever we want to be. Just a few empowering women who are featured in Covergirls #GirlsCan campaign are Ellen DeGeneres, Pink, Katy Perry, and Queen Latifah. They are role models who display for young women what beauty looks like from the inside out. They also show that beauty can be different from person to person and differences should be embraced! They are courageous, confident, and charismatic. They know that #GirlsCan and WILL!

GirlsCan: Women Empowerment COVERGIRL is about discovering, encouraging whatever it is that makes a girl take up the challenge; break those barriers and turn "can't" into "can." COVERGIRL knows that with every barrier she breaks, the world gets a little more easy breezy for the next girl. - CoverGirl

2. Dove- #speakbeautiful #dove

Dove Self-Esteem Project is “Helping young people overcome body image issues and fulfill their potential by building positive body confidence and self-esteem.” In Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty women of all shapes and sizes had the opportunity to become brand ambassadors. These unedited images of females provide a much more realistic depiction than most typical advertisements in the media. In one of Dove’s advertisements, we clearly see that the images in media are not always as perceived. Dove displays how technologies like photoshop and filters can have a dramatic impact on a female's appearance. The advertisement shows a model both before and after she is edited and the difference between the two is rather dramatic. “Images of people in the media are manipulated so dramatically these days that it can feel like ‘beauty’ is less and less attainable.” It is so important for young girls to be educated, supported, and have positive role models and mentors through such a pivotal and often challenging time in their life. Teaching girls to be empowered, poised, love themselves, and become conscious consumers of the media at a young age will ultimately help them to become more successful women in today’s society.

3. Always- #LikeAGirl

Always is on a mission to “boost girls’ confidence by encouraging girls everywhere to embrace failure as fuel to build confidence & Keep Going #LikeAGirl.” Did you know that  “at puberty, 50% of girls feel paralyzed by the fear of failure”? I know that the fear of failure is sometimes still a challenge for me. We want to be so “perfect” that we are often stopped instead of becoming unstoppable. #LikeAGirl helps empower girls to realize that it is not an insult to run #LikeAGirl, fight #LikeAGirl, or throw #LikeAGirl. Being #LikeAGirl is a good thing NOT a bad thing. Empowered & Poised stands with Always to help #LikeAGirl mean amazing things.

And since the rest of puberty's really no picnic either, it's easy to see what a huge impact it can have on a girl's self-confidence. -Always

4. Aerie- #aeriereal

Aerie’s Share Your Spark Campaign united real girls for the launch of their sunnie bra, empowering them to love their self. Barbie Ferreria, and aerieRealGirl shared, “When I was younger I never had representation of people that I truly could relate to.” The #aeriereal campaign is a “commitment to 100% unretouched models that started in 2014 and has grown into a movement about body positivity and self-love.” Now,  females of all shapes, colors, and sizes can feel celebrated. Aerie is helping to empower females and make it known that beauty is from the inside out through femvertising. Empowered & Poised couldn’t agree more our real self really is our most beautiful self!

From Aerie designers to bloggers to social media fans, 40 #AerieREAL girls came together to ignite empowerment and share their positive vibes. Watch how it all came together! What advice do you have for other girls? Ignite empowerment and share your spark with the world! #AerieREAL -Aerie

5. Organic Valley- #organicvalley

Femvertising can be found promoting more than just female based products like pads, bras, and makeup. Organic Valley is a great and humorous example of a brand using femvertising to promote their morning shake in a light hearted manner.  In their Real Morning Report Organic Valley shares a handful of statistics that prove to society a typical woman’s morning is quite different than what social media depicts. For example, “most women do not typically wake up feeling #blessed that it's Monday again.” This ad is fun, persuading, and shares a positive message to females, reminding them not all women live a picture perfect life. We are Empowered & Poised because of the crazy and hectic things we often have to work through in our daily lives. We surveyed 1000 women to find out what their mornings are really like. Turns out most mornings are officially cray. You know what 100% of professional women have time for? An organic breakfast in a bottle, with 16 grams of protein and half the day's calcium. -Organic Valley

Progress Over Perfection by Leah

I am an Empowered & Poised Female because I am brave enough to follow my dreams. The life of an entrepreneur is never easy, especially being a twenty-two year old recent college graduate. I have never been great at letting go as I am a perfectionist, and need to manage my anxiety, almost on a daily basis. I have constantly struggled with forgiving myself for getting a bad grade, which to most people would not even be considered unacceptable. This type of thinking has also trickled down into other areas of my life. Eating too many treats, which at times means more than none, and obsessing over things that do not truly matter like how flat my stomach is at any given point in a day have been struggles in life. So, it is safe to say that starting a business has presented quite a few challenges for me. I am learning it is okay to let go of the need to be perfect all the time. There are still days I get nervous about looking “dumb” and have my amazing boyfriend edit a two sentence email to settle my fears, but I am slowly beginning to trust myself and my abilities. I am starting to realize that if I make a mistake it is okay because I am human and I am imperfect, just like everyone else. I now understand that it is better to DO SOMETHING and learn than be afraid of failure and do nothing at all.

My passion for working with young girls and supporting women is what will make this tough journey as a young female business owner worthwhile. On the days that I struggle, I remember that I too am empowered & poised. I am courageous, strong, and driven because there is a world that is much bigger than me in need of positivity and acceptance. I am living in a world where I know I am not the only woman that seems confident, but breaks down crying some nights trying to love herself. I am empowered & poised and will no longer allow my fears to tell me I am incapable of becoming a success. For so long I was scared to begin this journey, not having the ability to plan every little detail. Today I stand boldly and beautifully knowing that I will be a success if I can touch the heart of just one female. Because ultimately, making the difference in even one girl’s life is enough for me to know I am living out my greater purpose. It will allow me to sleep at night knowing one less girl will have to deal with feeling that she constantly has to measure up to society’s standards of “perfection”.

I am an empowered & poised female because I am learning to set aside my fears and trust the process. I am an empowered & poised female because I am brave enough to follow my dreams. I am an empowered & poised female because I am brave enough to become naked to the world and share my raw stories and struggles so that other females can begin to heal and know that they are not alone.

You are not alone.

Because I am an empowered & poised female I am confident that “I am not perfect like you, I am perfect like me.”
